Professor, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care
For me, being part of LICAGE means having a true professional home in the complex world of liver disease, major hepatic surgery, and transplantation. It is a uniquely focused community where colleagues speak the same “clinical language”, share the same scientific questions, and are willing to exchange both successes and difficulties. LICAGE offers a space where experience, ideas, and research are openly shared across centres and disciplines, so that what we learn individually can benefit all of us — and ultimately, our patients. Joining this community means not only staying at the forefront of the field but also actively contributing to shaping its future together.

Professor, Liver Transplant Anaesthesia and Critical Care
For me, LICAGE is a vital association for the anesthesia and critical care community, particularly for those interested in advancing beyond the traditional core of anesthetic practice. I was fortunate to be part of the revitalization of LICAGE in 2003 and to attend its first meeting in 2005 in Newcastle upon Tyne. That meeting marked the beginning of a series of outstanding scientific gatherings where we explored a wide range of liver-related topics, including transplantation, intensive care management of ACLF and cirrhotic patients, and associated challenges such as infection, hemostatic disorders, and acute kidney injury.
Over the years, LICAGE has evolved into a unique platform connecting clinicians and researchers with a shared passion for liver-focused critical care. Beyond networking and education, the group has generated meaningful academic output, including multiple peer-reviewed publications. For anyone with scientific or clinical interest in liver disease and transplant critical care, joining LICAGE is truly invaluable.

Anesthesiologist, Member of the Liver Transplant Program
From the first LICAGE meeting on in Newcastle in 2005, I could feel a connection with this society. LICAGE has always been a group of experts in the field of liver disease and liver transplantation. Due to the specific subject, LICAGE was and is a rather small society with the advantage of having specialists in various topics of liver disease readily accessible in one meeting.

Of course the society has changed over the years with new opportunities within other societies and meetings, but always accessible to all groups of care givers in the field, especially providing a forum to young trainees and nurses.

Personally I had the opportunity over the years of meeting people I could contact when in need of therapeutic advice on the sometimes difficult cases that presented in my practice.

I can only highly recommend them to you!
